Generally, I imagine that your work will fall into one of these areas:

• Policy: creating a needed policy or changing a current one.
• Community Action: volunteerism, group organizing, a campaign, a program.
• Consciousness-raising: Creating a program/workshop/event that educates others about something that matters.
• Personal Quest: focusing internally, developing self-awareness

*Note: If you are considering something like Thoreau’s Walden or McCandless’ Alaskan adventure it has to be structured and through an organization that specializes and helping people do this type of work. Without experience, there is great potential for this type of project to be unsuccessful. If you can find a retreat, a program or an organization that specializes in this that you want to attend, you can present it to Mr. Garbus and me.
