Teaching in EL Education schools fosters curiosity about the world by creating learning situations that provide something important to think about, time to experiment, and time to make sense of what is observed.

Volleyball – update from Coach Peter Scherer
The second year of Four Rivers Volleyball wrapped up with our end-of-season tournament at the Putney School on April 5th. There were a lot of new faces on the volleyball team this year. Throughout the short season with games against the other RVAL teams, the players gained experience and showed consistent improvement. Getting great contributions from everybody on this young team, the tremendous growth in knowledge of the intricacies of the game and the continued growth of teamwork sets Four Rivers up for another great season next year! Thanks to all the players, families and fans for supporting Four Rivers Volleyball!

Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate season is in full swing! We have 5 teams this year – Boys Middle School, Girls and Boys JV, and Girls and Boys Varsity. There are a total of 90 students in the program. The sports calendar is up to date and there are a lot of games coming up. Come out to cheer on our teams for our home games!
Here are some updates from our coaches:
Boys Middle School – Coach Marc Guillaume
The Middle School Boys have had a great start to the season. We’re working on using FLOW offense, meaning that players try to anticipate where the play might go and move so they can help the frisbee “flow” to the goal line! We’re also prioritizing play time for all players. We currently have a 4W, 3L record. Now, we’ve only played 3 games so far but if you score the games by the halfs, we’ve won 3 halfs and lost 3 halfs! So, a good season so far, with lots of different activities during practices, and looking forward to some great tournaments!
Boys JV – Coach Ashley Schenk
The Boys JV team is off to a great start! We are 3-1 against other JV teams, and 0-3 against other varsity teams. Because there aren’t a lot of JV Ultimate teams out there, we end up playing against many varsity level teams, which provides us with an excellent chance to grow and improve as a team. We’re employing a zone defense, which has been very effective against most of the teams that we’ve faced. Our offense is a work in progress- we have two very distinct offenses against zone defense vs. person defense. We’ve had great spirit and chemistry, with players finding their roles relatively easily. We have two tournaments over the next two Saturdays that will be big measuring stick events.
Girls JV – Coach Catherine Zacchilli
Our Girls JV ultimate frisbee season has been off to a strong and spirited start! Despite facing some seriously tough weather conditions—cold temperatures, freezing rain, and soggy fields—we’ve shown up with energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes. Whether it was a game or a tournament, we’ve stayed committed and continued to improve. Each week, we’ve seen progress in our skills and chemistry. Practices have been focused and productive, with a strong emphasis on the fundamentals: making smart cuts, refining our forehand and backhand throws, and completing catches under pressure. We are building momentum, learning from each match, and growing together as a team. We’re excited to keep pushing forward!
Boys Varsity – Coach Terry Plotkin
The Boys Varsity is off to a very good start, winning our first five games, including an exciting win over Amherst College and a close game win over always tough Amherst High School. The team is exceeding my expectations. We graduated 11 seniors last year, which is a very high number, and I thought it would take this team a while to gel. But it has come together quickly, the new players have really stepped up and the returnees are all playing at a high level. May is going to be a busy month, as the kids wanted to do all the tournaments they could. We will have at it. I hope you come out and watch. We put on a good show.
Girls Varsity – Coach Julia Fay
Girls Varsity came into the season serious and ambitious- having already started with captains’ practices and pre-season workouts since January! This team has netted three solid wins against Putney School, Amherst and Northampton. The Amherst game was hard-fought, with zone defense featuring as a major contributor. Everyone is working hard and bringing a lot of heart and commitment to this season, and the team has some big dreams! We are currently working on some new defensive and offensive strategies and getting ready for a competitive tournament season coming up.
